We have sinned by what we have done and by what we have failed to do. We have not loved you enough to obey your command to love one another as Jesus showed his love for us. In your mercy, forgive what we have been, help us to improve what we are, and guide us to be better disciples. Fill us with your Spirit that we will delight in your will and walk in your ways. ASSURANCE OF PARDON Leader: Good friends, the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting; People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Amen! PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Lord, open our heart s and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that as the Scriptures are read and your word is declared, we may hear with joy what you are saying to us today. OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: Psalm 2 NEW TESTAMENT LESSON: Matthew 28:16 – 20 John 13.31 - 38 SERMON *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human and fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and death, and delivering us from death to eternal life.
